Called to a Riello burner breakdown today. Oil Boiler was 20 years old but the burner had been changed about 4 years ago.
When the heating was turned on the motor started to spin and started to pull air in through the fan and also pressurised the fuel through the oil pump.
The solenoid was opening, clicking sound, and the burner lit. It ran for about 8 seconds and then died.
Boiler red interlock light came on.
Problem was caused by the flame sensor in the control box had got covered in soot and could not see a flame when it should have done as part of it’s ignition sequence. This caused the control box to shut down for safety.
