Water Pump Repair
Most modern homes and apartments make use of a water pump to add extra pressure to the water supply. Sometimes they can give problems and need a water pump repair. Ultimately this ensures the extension of the lifespan of your water pump. This in turn can help prevent any costly breakdowns of any components. Usually, the most common types of pumps used are the Walrus TQ400, the Grundfos MQ3-35 and the Grundfos Scala2.
Domestic Water Pump Use
Due to the age and condition of the mains water supply pipes in Dublin, the water pressure is kept relatively low in most areas. This helps to prevent leaks or pipes bursting on the network and minimizes water lost into the ground.
Consequently, this means that the water that you get into your home is of very low pressure. This makes for a very poor shower and a long bath running time. So how can this be improved?
This can be achieved by using a shower pump, a booster pump or a pressurised cylinder water pump.
Generally, there are three main types of pumps typically used in homes around Dublin. They are Positive Head Pumps, Negative Head Pumps & Whole house Pumps. Normally they are one of three manufacturers
If you see your pump below and need help or information on it the please click on the picture of it.
Positive Head Water Pump
Used with a vented hot water cylinder where the cold water storage tanks are in the attic of a house and sufficient “head” pressure is available, (i.e. where the height distance between the bottom of the water supply and the top of the hot water cylinder is great enough to push water out of the expansion pipe on the cylinder).
Negative Head Water Pump
– used when there is insufficient “head” pressure to activate the operation of the pump when a shower/tap is opened. They are used mainly in apartments that have combined hot and cold water cylinders.
Whole House Water Pump Repair
Finally, the last type of water pumps that are used is used in the configuration where a pressurised water system is installed. These use stored water from tanks and feed a pressurised water cylinder and every pipe that comes from this cylinder is then pressurised.
